I met up with some folks from the CbodyDryDock at Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield, CA for my first runs in the 300. I drove out with no headlights and only took two runs so I could leave early since Santa Barbara is a three hour drive from Famoso. The car surprised me by running over a second faster than I expected, and here are my timeslips:

Heck, 16.0 isn't bad at all for a car well over two tons and a completely stock engine with single exhaust and freeway cruising 2.76 gears! I could tell the transmission was shifting too late so between runs I adjusted the kickdown linkage by turning it down two full turns and it seemed to help. A goal was set: The car must break into the 15's.

As you can see, the Honda got a much better launch this time whereas I was spinning the rear tires - oops. However, my goal was still met! This was a pleasing run and since it was edging close to 3pm, it was time to leave for the three hour drive home. Mid-low 15's can't be that hard to achieve without taking the engine apart except for adding a good intake and exhaust but that's still too slow. Sometime in the future this car will get the full treatment like the Bonneville has- maybe even taking it a step or two farther.

All in all, it was a fun day meeting fellow Moparites, sitting in Val's full on drag 'Cuda, being deafened by uncorked Roadrunners and funny cars and general hanging out. I can't wait to do it again!
